1. Information We Collect
We collect personal information you provide when joining the movement, including your name, contact details, ID number, location (province, region, municipality, ward), and areas of interest. We also collect canvassing data such as resident interactions, GPS coordinates during field operations, and device information for sync verification purposes.
2. How We Use Your Information
- To process membership applications and maintain membership records
- To coordinate canvassing, community outreach, and volunteer activities
- To communicate with you about events, campaigns, and movement updates (with your consent)
- To produce aggregated, anonymized reports for organizational planning
- To comply with legal obligations under South African law
3. Legal Basis for Processing
We process your personal information based on your consent, the legitimate interests of the organization in conducting democratic political activity, and compliance with legal obligations. You may withdraw consent at any time.
4. Data Retention
We retain personal data only as long as necessary for the purposes outlined above. Canvassing records are retained for 3 years, sync verification data for 1 year, canvasser presence data for 90 days, and inactive member records are anonymized after 7 years. Audit logs are retained for 7 years for compliance purposes.
5. Data Security
We implement role-based access controls, row-level security, and audit logging to protect your personal information. Only authorized personnel with appropriate clearance levels can access personal data, and all access is logged for audit purposes.
6. Sharing of Information
We do not sell or rent your personal information. Data may be shared with authorized canvassing coordinators and branch leaders within your geographic area for coordination purposes. Aggregated, anonymized data may be used for public reporting.
7. Your Rights Under POPIA
You have the right to access, correct, or delete your personal information, object to processing, and withdraw consent. To exercise these rights, submit a data request using the form below. We will respond within 30 days.
